ARABIC CULTURE AND LANGUAGE We have a great opportunity for students to learn about Arabic culture and language. Mahmoud Dahroug, a teacher from Egypt, has been co-teaching in a 5th grade class at Irving this past year as well as instructing after school classes for students and adults. Through a grant, Mahmoud will be able to provide an Arabic Language and Culture class to our students at SMS. This class will occur Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 at SMS in room A24 (in the library) beginning on Feb. 20th. We anticipate the class to continue for the remainder of this school year. SCHOOL HOURS Classes at Sacajawea Middle School start at 8:20am and end at 3:25pm each day.

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP Parents may drop off and pick up their student in the north parking lot of the school or in the "horseshoe" loop in the front of the school. Buses now drop kids off on the south side of the school.

STUDENT ABSENCE If your student is going to miss school due to an illness, please call 522-6410 and leave a message on the attendance line. If your student is going to miss school due to vacation, please call 522-6410 and/or have your student bring in a note stating the dates that will be missed. If the student will miss 4 or more days, please email the teachers to inform them and have the student come to the main office to pick up an extended absence form to be filled out by the teachers. Thank you!

STUDENT APPOINTMENTS If your student needs to leave school early for an appointment, please send a note in with your child the morning of the appointment and bring it to the main office. We will then write a blue pass for the student stating the time he/she needs to be picked up. You can then come to the main office to meet your child and sign them out at that designated time. Also, please be sure to get a note from the doctor, orthodontist, therapist, etc to bring back to school stating you were at an appointment. We can then enter the absence in as a medical excuse.

MISSING SCHOOL DUE TO SPORTS ABSENCE If your student needs to miss school due to a sports related activity that is not affiliated with SMS, please have their coach send a letter to SMS stating the dates of absence and names of the students attending to 522-6474 (fax) and we will then mark the absence as a sports related activity. We will also need the parent/guardian to call the office at 522-6410 to excuse their child for the day/days.
